How you can help your child's learning
- Log onto your child's Tapestry account to view their learning and add some of the fantastic things they
do with you at home. - Look out for the Wellbeing Wednesday activities. These are simple fun activities to do at home with your child.
- Everyday the children take part in a brain break and chime time.
This is one of our favourite ones to do.

We follow The Curiosity Approach to learning and embrace the ideology behind it.
What is The Curiosity Approach?
In short, The Curiosity Approach aims to create ‘thinkers & doers’ by putting children at the centre of their own development and learning. Standard toys and technology are taken away from the learning environment and are replaced with everyday items (such as cutlery, pots, old tech, pine cones, conkers etc.) to encourage children’s natural curiosity to explore and create. This offers our little ones amazing sensory opportunities to learn through real life, natural, holistic objects, and thingamajigs! The Curiosity Approach draws from various philosophies of early education. It was founded by Lyndsey Hellyn and Stephanie Bennett who between them run six nurseries across the Midlands and have over 50 years of childcare experience.
So how does it work in practice?
Firstly, the nurseries are painted in neutral colours to create a serene, ‘homely’ environment, filled with easily accessible resources at eye-level. Plastic toys are then replaced with ordinary, real-life items made of wood or other natural materials, promoting recycling, upcycling and reuse.
They can include anything from cutlery, pots and pans to nuts and bolts. This encourages children to create their own toys to play with while at the same time learning about the world whilst using imagination, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Children go back to basics and have to use their imagination to figure out what each item is for/how to use it. This gives the children control to shape their playtime, rather than the toy shaping and limiting it, encouraging children to think for them themselves and build confidence. In summary, by providing more open opportunities for play, children are able to develop more holistically than by playing with toys with a specific purpose. Gone are the days of production line crafts, with cards and artwork all looking the same, allowing children freedom, creativity and autonomy over their creations. Allowing children to be immersed in the process with no end result in mind.
We often evaluate “Who is the activity for? What are the children learning?” We capture the children’s learning by taking photographs instead of an end product.
Term 2 2025 - 2026

November 2025
The children were introduced to Remembrance day. We talked about Poppies and about the soldiers that had fought in the war. The children printed their own poppies and took part in a two minute silence. We watched a beautiful video designed for young children.
The children have been learning all about Autumn and the changes they can see around them.
We have been singing and signing to a new Autumn song using Makaton. Below is a video for you to sing at home with you child. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Term 1 2025-26

This term we had our nursery birthday party. The children made party hats, ate party food and played party games. We had a wonderful time. Thank you to all the parents who sent in photos of your children celebrating their birthday, we enjoyed looking at them all.
The children have been extending their learning of birthdays by delivering invitations to our nursery birthday party. The children have been using dolls to act out their own parties. Last week our core story was ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’ and this week the children have been using the story sack to retell the story using voices for the characters.
The children have been enjoying singing with scarves. They are following instructions and developing gross motor skills and hand eye coordination. We moved our scarves to the songs ‘10 fat sausages’ and ‘All the fish are swimming’.
We have an apple core in our Curiosity Cube. We are curious to watch it change and decay over time.

This week the children began learning about birthday's, the children have been sharing their own experiences of family birthdays. We are looking forward to our families sharing some photographs on their child's Tapestry account. We have been making birthday cakes using play dough and loose parts and our role play area has been decorated for a party.
We have been reading the story 'Happy Birthday Dotty'
The children have enjoyed getting messy with paint and exploring shaving foam.
Our core book this week was ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Can You See?’ We went on a colour hunt and found objects that matched the colours in the story. The children are beginning to name more than just the primary colours.
We have been mark making on the floor week, supporting the children to develop core strength and large motor skills.
Welcome back to nursery. The children have settled well and are already demonstrating that they are curious learners. We have been exploring 'all about me' and the children have been sharing who lives in their house and who is in their family. Using loose parts the children have created beautiful self portraits after looking at their features in the mirror.
Take a look at the slideshow below showcasing our first week back after the summer break.
